Louis Foster is on the loose.

Andretti Global driver Foster drove to the pole Saturday for both races in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey doubleheader at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca after sweeping both practices Friday. Foster has won two of the last three races in the INDYCAR development series and is second in the championship, 19 points behind leader Jacob Abel.

“I think it’s the same story as last year, to be honest,” Foster said. “I haven’t gone any faster. We just have had less gremlins to deal with. Obviously, happy everything is going our way now finally. This is where we should be. This is where we deserve to be. Let’s go race.”

The qualifying session was split into two groups on the 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course, with each driver’s quickest time used to set the grid for Race 1 later today and their second-quickest lap establishing the field for Race 2 on Sunday.

British driver Foster’s best lap was 1 minute, 12.1760 seconds in the No. 26 Copart/Novara Technologies car, with his second-best lap at 1:12.4444.

Foster earned his second and third poles this season and sixth and seventh of his career in the INDYCAR development series, which started in 2023. He was so quick that his Andretti Global strategists told him to park early in the two-group session.

“The plan was to save tires,” Foster said. “I didn’t have the information to know where we were and if we should have boxed (entered pits) or not, so I left it up the team, and they made the correct decision to save tires. This race is usually tough on tires.”

Race 1 of the last doubleheader of the season is scheduled for 3:25 p.m. ET Saturday, with Race 2 at 3:55 p.m. ET Sunday. Each race is 35 laps and will be broadcast live by Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Brazilian rookie Caio Collet will join Foster on the front row for both races after his best laps of 1:12.6275 and 1:12.6817 in the No. 18 HMD Motorsports car.

Reece Gold and championship leader Abel will occupy Row 2 in both races. Gold qualified third for both events, tying his career best, with his top laps of 1:12.9883 and 1:13.0490 in the No. 10 HMD Motorsports car. Abel will start fourth in both races after his laps of 1:12.7217 and 1:12.9425 in the No. 51 Abel Construction car fielded by Abel Motorsports.

Christian Bogle qualified a career-best fifth for Race 1 at 1:13.3427 in the No. 7 HMD Motorsports machine. Rookie Bryce Aron qualified a career-best fifth for Race 2 at 1:13.5226 in the No. 27 Jaguar Land Rover Chesterfield car of Andretti Global.

Yuven Sundaramoorthy qualified a career-best sixth for both races in the No. 22 S Team Motorsports/Abel Motorsports car.
