Kiko Porto will replace championship contender Nolan Siegel in the No. 39 HMD Motorsports car for the remainder of the INDYNXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Road America weekend, as Siegel is focusing at this event on his NTT INDYCAR SERIES drive with Juncos Hollinger Racing.
Porto, from Brazil, will make his 2024 INDY NXT debut this weekend. 2021 USF2000 champion Porto competed in three events in INDYCAR’s development series in 2023 for Cape Motorsports, with a best finish of ninth on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in August.
Siegel, third in the INDY NXT standings, is replacing full-time driver Agustin Canapino in the No. 78 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet in the aftermath of online abuse directed toward Theo Pourchaire of Arrow McLaren after he made contact with Canapino’s car Sunday, June 7 during the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
“HMD Motorsports fully supports Nolan in prioritizing his INDYCAR efforts for this weekend and wishes him the best of luck in this opportunity,” an HMD Motorsports statement on X said.
Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network will broadcast the INDY NXT by Firestone race at 1:05 p.m. ET Sunday.
