Abel Motorsports will field a new driver in its No. 21 entry for the Indianapolis Grand Prix INDY NXT by Firestone doubleheader May 10-11 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course after the team announced May 2 that driver Josh Mason will not be with the team for those two races.
A post on X read: “Josh Mason will not be in the No. 21 Abel Motorsports Dallara during the Indianapolis rounds of the INDY NXT championship. Mason is working to secure additional funding, and a substitute will be named in due course.”
British driver Mason made his debut in the INDYCAR development series in the first two rounds of this season, with finishes of 17th at St. Petersburg and 16th at Barber Motorsports Park. He is 17th in the series standings.
Abel also fields the No. 51 car for joint series leader Jacob Abel and the No. 22 for Yuven Sundaramoorthy. The team and driver Abel each earned their first career INDY NXT victory April 28 at Barber.
