Indy Lights veteran driver Heamin Choi will join Juncos Racing for the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires season-closing doubleheader at Portland International Raceway, team officials announced Tuesday.

Choi, who raced in Indy Lights in 2015, will team up with current Juncos Racing driver Victor Franzoni and drive the the No. 7 Juncos Racing car on the 1.97 mile, 12-Turn road course.

 “I’m very excited to come back to the Indy Lights championship with Juncos Racing,” Choi said. “It was really hard to have a long break without racing. During my break I worked on meeting a lot of people and finding some Korean partners. The Portland race will be good preparation for my next season and my Indy 500 hopefully in the near future. I hope to get my confidence back and show my potential at Portland International Raceway. I appreciate Ricardo (Juncos) for giving me a great opportunity and my supporters in Korea.”

Choi, 34, was the first Korean driver to compete on INDYCAR’s Mazda Road to Indy development ladder. He made 10 starts in the Cooper Tires USF2000 championship in 2012 and made seven Indy Lights starts with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in 2015-16.

“We are pleased to have Heamin (Choi) back with us,” said team owner Ricardo Juncos, who fielded an Indy Lights car for Choi at the 2017 Chris Griffis Memorial Test at Indianapolis. “We had a great time working with him last October at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Chris Griffis test. Even though Heamin has not been in an Indy Lights car this season, I am confident he will have a great run at Portland. I want to thank Heamin, his family, and sponsors for the opportunity to work with him again.”

Miller-Vinatieri Motorsports to field USF2000 car in 2019

Miller Vinatieri Motorsports, the race team fielded by former Indy car driver Dr. Jack Miller and NFL place-kicker Adam Vinatieri, will compete in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda.

The team will get their first official test under their belt at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the weekend of September 22-23. Jack William Miller, the son of Dr. Jack Miller, will race one of the team’s two-car entry, and the team has the option of a possible third car will be announced at a later date.

"I am really excited to enter the Road to Indy program as they offer so much possibility for up and coming drivers," explained three-time Indianapolis 500 starter and five season Indy Lights competitor Jack Miller. "I have been fortunate enough to experience Indy car racing first hand and my son has a goal to make it to the top. This is the best thing for him and his future career as well as our outstanding number of marketing partners. 

"My team and I have managed to secure a major sponsor for 2019 that will offset some of the costs of running a second car."

Running a current two car program in the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda with Jack William Miller and Dylan Tavella, the growth of the program is a natural progression as drivers begin to move up the motorsports ladder.
