LEXINGTON, Ohio – The top three finishers in Race 2 of the Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio form the nucleus of a three-race Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship dash.

Jack Harvey swept the 30- and 40-lap races on the 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to firmly plant his feet in the title battle. Zach Veach finished 12.1802 seconds back and Gabby Chaves placed third.

Chaves, driving the No. 7 Belardi Racing entry, takes an 18-point advantage into Round 12 of the season Aug. 17 at the Milwaukee Mile. Harvey moved to second and Veach, driving the No. 26 Andretti Autosport-prepared car, is 24 points out of the lead. Another doubleheader Aug. 23-24 at Sonoma Raceway will determine the championship.

“We got maximum points this weekend and hopefully if we can continue the season how we did this weekend we should be pretty good,” said Harvey, who claimed his first Indy Lights victory Aug. 2 by dominating from the pole in the No. 42 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports with Curb-Agajanian car.

Harvey, 21, of Lincoln, England, moved to the States for the Indy Lights season after finishing fifth in the 2013 GP3 standings. He was the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series champion in 2012 with seven victories.

Veach, of Stockdale, Ohio, earned his first podium finish in his home state.

"I'm happy to take home second place," Veach said. "We just have to keep pushing from here and go win in Milwaukee." 

Axcil Jeffries, who made his series debut at Mid-Ohio in 2013, finished fourth and Juan Piedrahita placed fifth. Matthew Brabham, who entered the race as the fourth title contender in the No. 83 Andretti Autosport car, was involved in an on-track incident on Lap 1 and retired. He has 325 points – 82 behind his teammate Veach.

Harvey won Race 1 by 17.340 seconds over Chaves, with Luiz Razia finishing third and Veach in fourth.
