New Zealand driver Liam Sceats will join HMD Motorsports for the 2025 INDY NXT by Firestone season opener Sunday, March 2 at St. Petersburg, Florida.
Sceats, a winner in the USF Pro 2000 Championship program in 2024, will debut in the INDYCAR development series to complete HMD’s nine-driver roster to start the season. He finished fifth in the USF Pro 2000 standings last season with TJ Speed Motorsports, winning on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
He will drive HMD’s No. 30 machine on the streets of St. Petersburg in a race that starts at 10 a.m. ET March 2 (live, FS1, INDYCAR Radio Network).
“I’m incredibly excited to join HMD Motorsports for my first race in the INDY NXT by Firestone series,” Sceats said. “The team has been fantastic in supporting my development, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete at such a high level. While I am pushing hard off the track to continue the evolution of my partner program, my full focus is on St. Pete as it quickly approaches. I can’t wait to get started.”
Sceats, 19, has shown promising pace in tests with HMD Motorsports at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Barber Motorsports Park and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
“We are thrilled to welcome Liam to the HMD Motorsports family,” HMD Team President Mike Maurini said. “Liam is one of the hardest-working drivers I have ever met behind the scenes putting together partner programs and has shown incredible potential during his on-track test days. With track knowledge in St. Pete, we’re confident he’ll be a strong contender and look forward to seeing what he can do behind the wheel.”
