Seb Murray

Andretti Global announced Jan. 21 that Seb Murray will join the Andretti Cape INDY NXT program for the 2025 INDY NXT by Firestone season, driving the No. 2 Dream Racing Dubai Dallara.

Murray, 17, from Aberdeen, Scotland, completes the 2025 Andretti Cape INDY NXT driver lineup, joining previously announced Ricardo Escotto in the second season of a technical partnership between Andretti INDY NXT and Cape Motorsports.

“I can’t wait to be racing with Andretti Cape in INDY NXT this year and would like to thank everybody on the team for giving me this opportunity,” Murray said. “I’m confident that 2025 is going to be a fun season with lots of new experiences for me, such as competing on ovals for the first time.

“Testing with Andretti Cape INDY NXT in Sebring was a nice way to get to know my teammates, engineer and the No. 2 crew ahead of the season. I know that INDY NXT is a big step up, but I am prepared to take on the challenge. I can’t wait to get started.”

Murray began his racing career in karting, where he competed in the IAME Series UAE from 2017-23 and the IAME Euro Series from 2021-22.

While maintaining his passion for karting, Murray made his car racing debut in 2022 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Formula 4 UAE Trophy Round, where he collected a pair of top-10 finishes. In 2023, he took on the full F4 UAE season, finishing as high as 13th, all while being committed to a schedule of F4 car testing to increase his single-seater driving experience. This testing would prove to work in Murray’s favor as he competed in the final two rounds of the 2023 GB4 Championship, capturing three top-10 finishes across both events.

Murray competed in the full 2024 F4 UAE season, scoring a top-five finish at the Yas Marina Circuit. As the 2024 F4 UAE season came to an end in February, Murray quickly transitioned to the GB3 Championship only a month later, making his debut at Oulton Park. The Scot made 24 GB3 Championship starts, scoring as high as seventh.

“We’re happy to have Seb round out our Andretti Cape lineup for the 2025 INDY NXT season,” said J-F Thormann, head of driver development, Andretti Global. “The Andretti Cape program that we launched last year proved to be successful, and I think that this is a great place for Seb to get his start in American open-wheel racing. After seeing what he can do in F4 and GB3, we believe that this step to INDY NXT early in his racing career is going to be an excellent and essential learning experience for him.”

Murray previously tested a USF Pro 2000 car at Barber Motorsports Park. Last week, he took his first laps in an INDY NXT car while testing at Sebring International Raceway with the Andretti Cape INDY NXT team. Murray will make his INDY NXT race debut Sunday, March 2 at the season opener on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

“We are extremely excited to have Seb in our Andretti Cape lineup for the 2025 INDY NXT season,” Cape Motorsports President Dominic Cape said. “Last week’s test in Sebring gave us some insight into working with him, and for his first time in an INDY NXT car, he was able to adapt and give us some great feedback. The team is eager to work with him the rest of the season and help advance his career to the next level.”
