FEB 05, 2019
Brazilian racer Lucas Kohl is ready for his next challenge on the Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires.
After spending three seasons in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, Kohl has joined Belardi Auto Racing for the 2019 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires championship.
The 20-year-old knows that he is facing a steep learning curve as he makes the jump to the top step of the Road to Indy ladder, but is excited for the challenge ahead.
“I know that as a rookie it is going to be challenging, but with the experience that Belardi Auto Racing has, I feel that they can help me to learn as much as possible as fast as possible,” Kohl said.
Kohl had an impressive 2018 campaign racking up 11 top-10 finishes, four podium finishes including a best finish of second at Mid-Ohio. Kohl was able to join Belardi Auto Racing for the annual Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
After the two-day test session, team owner Brian Belardi knew that he wanted Kohl to pilot one of the team’s planned three-car Indy Lights team.
“We are very excited that Lucas has joined Belardi Auto Racing,” Belardi said. “He is a very bright young man and has a great future in racing. The team and I are very pleased to have Lucas and can’t wait to see him shine this year.”
