2013 series runner-up Chaves joins Belardi

Gabby Chaves, who finished runner-up in the Indy Lights championship in 2013, will join Belardi Auto Racing for the 14-race Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season.
Chaves, 20, of Colombia, recorded one victory and 10 podium finishes last season.

After winning a Skip Barber Racing Shootout scholarship, Colombian Grand Prix Formula Renault 2000 title and finishing as the Skip Barber Eastern Regional Series runner-up, Chaves proceeded to record 17 consecutive Skip Barber Racing wins en route to the 2006-07 Southern Series title. He won the Formula BMW Americas title in 2009 and was named Rookie of the Year in the Italian Formula 3 Championship. In 2012, Chaves was the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires series runner-up.
Chaves joins rookie Alex Baron with the Brownsburg, Ind.-based team. The season opens March 30 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.
